$11.37 Million Distributed as Trust Marks Transformative Year

Otago Community Trust has released its 2024-25 Annual Report, highlighting a year of significant achievement and strategic growth despite challenging economic conditions. The Trust distributed $11.37 million in grants to community groups across Otago, approving a total of 691 grant applications throughout the financial year.

Community Impact Highlights
The Trust's granting for the year showcased the diversity and innovation of Otago's community sector. Notable projects included:

                           These Māori and Pasifika-led projects focus on supporting strong connections and a sense of belonging among young people, creating pathways for future generations.

Investment Performance
Despite market volatility in the final months of the financial year, the Trust's funds reached $318.8 million, achieving an annual return of 6.4%. The Trust's long-term investment approach and strategic asset allocation positioned it well to navigate challenging market conditions.

Governance and Team Strengthening
The Trust welcomed new trustees Stacey Honeywill, Jeremy Chang, and Rachel Bird, while Dr Michael Stevens and Rebecca Williams were re-appointed, ensuring governance continuity. The organisation farewelled trustees Raewyn van Gool and the late Fraser McKenzie, whose contributions were acknowledged with deep appreciation.

Team expansion included the appointment of additional Grants Manager Penelope Pask, Policy & Research Manager Dr Louise Kewene-Doig (Ngāti Hikairo, Ngāti Hauā, Ngāti Ingarangi), and Community Engagement Advisor Nikita Choveaux.

Strategic Review Planned
Recognising the rapid evolution of community needs since its 2021 strategic plan, the Trust announced plans to engage with communities throughout the region in the coming year to review and update its strategic direction.
