Poolburn School - New ICT Equipment
1 Aug 2016
The Otago Community Trust was pleased to provide a $5,034 donation to Poolburn School in March. This donation helped the school situated in the Ida Valley with the cost of purchasing a class set of iPads, Chrome Books and a charging trolley.
Sarah Hibberd Principal of Poolburn School explains how this new technology is helping students. "With the recent funding we now have devices for all students (1:1). All children have been issued a school gmail address to access their account. We are using google drive to share information with students, as well as motivating them to log onto the drive and share work with their parents at home".
Poolburn School is also currently trialling a typing app to teach their students to touch type. A skill that will undoubtedly serve them well in the future, but also helps ensure that they don't spend too much time completing stories on their beloved Chrome books.
The new technology is allowing students to receive their weekly class newsletter, spelling and other homework or assignments through google drive. The students find this a really engaging way to receive and do their homework. The Otago Community Trust is pleased to see small rural Otago schools benefiting from ICT investment.
