Gina is a Dunedin Trustee and hails from a large diverse family including Kai Tahu whanau, Tongan fanau and Irish, Scottish ancestors. She has two children with her partner Mark and together they own Traction Lab Ltd which is an engineering and research company.

Since completing her Masters at Otago University, she has mainly worked in education as a Senior Advisor for the Ministry of Education and in teaching and research in the tertiary sector. Most recently gina worked as a Senior Lecturer at Otago Polytechnic and is interested in social sciences and creating quality learning experiences for students. Gina has an extensive background working with NFP community groups in Dunedin and also supports community research projects. She is Chair for the Tomahawk Smaills Beachcare Trust, member of the Dunedin City Council's Puaka Matariki Steering Roopu and Trustee on the Collaborative Therapeutic Development Trust. When she can, she enjoys tramping, riding her bike, waka-ama and strategy games.
