Funding Stories

The Otago Community Trust has contributed a further $400,000 to insulating low-income households in Otago through the Warm Up New Zealand: Healthy Homes programme.

More than 1000 Otago homes have already been insulated as a result of its funding contributions to the Government insulation programme, and the $400,000 contribution means another 500 homes will be insulated by the end of 2016.

The Otago Community Trust’s total funding for insulating houses in Otago now stands at $1 million.

The Trust took the initiative to establish partnerships with the Dunedin City Council and service providers Technobond and Smart Energy Solutions to deliver the insulation programme in Otago.

Otago Community Trust Chief Executive Barbara Bridger said the there is a clear link between poor health and cold damp living conditions. “We have had lots of feedback from those who have benefited from the programme, saying that improving the insulation of Otago's colder homes is making a noticeable difference to the health and wellbeing of those on low incomes. It is also improving the energy efficiency of these properties."

“This is something the Otago Community Trust is very proud of.”
