Our Wanaka based Trustee John Wilson recently attended the Wanaka Search and Rescue Sub Alpine training day at Cattle Flat, Mt Aspiring National Park. Paul Sutherland, team coordinator for the sub alpine team explains that the day “looked at core skills and competencies around helicopter operations, first aid, stretcher carrying and patient handling in and around low angle terrain, river crossing and awareness and navigation”.

Otago Community Trust and Central Lakes Trust are two major supporters of the Wanaka Search & Rescue. Otago Community Trust felt privileged to attend the training day and learn first-hand what this great team of volunteers do. John Wilson commented that it “was a very interesting and worthwhile day, another example of an extraordinary group of volunteers who put so much into helping others”.
