Tri Pounawea 2012

  • Success Stories

A community duathlon organised by the Pounawea Community not only helps to put the small Catlins town on the map, money raised goes back into the community. And what's more, the annual event encourages its residents to stay fit!

The Otago Community Trust donated $500 towards organising the December 2012 run and bike event, the fifth one. Organisers say it's become more and more popular, with participants registering from around Otago and Southland as well as locally. Tri Pounawea committee member Alyssa McDougall said it's a lovely part of the world to visit, and the duathalon course covers farmland as well as sealed and unsealed roads, so holds a lot of appeal to a range of fitness levels and abilities. And organisers have introduced a walk section up Jacob's Hill which also attracts the non-running competitors.
