Supporting the Dunedin Writers and Readers Festival
21 Aug 2014
Dunedin celebrated its writers in style this year, the city’s new Writers and Readers Festival supported by the Otago Community Trust.
The Writers and Readers Festival in May 2014 bought together a thriving local community of readers and writers, events and a stellar line up of international and New Zealand authors, including Alexander McCall Smith, Huw Lewis-Jones, Janice Galloway, Professor Nigel Leask, and Man Booker prizewinner Eleanor Catton.
Hundreds of festival goers from around New Zealand and Australia attended a week full of free and ticketed events, most of which sold out, including a mass book launch, writer talks, poetry readings, political debates, short film screenings.
Highlights included a talk from Eleanor Catton at Toitu, a Mother’s Day High Tea with celebrity chef Julie Le Clerc, and a very well supported story-time train trip to Port Chalmers for children.
