Summer Fun

Local families will be looking forward to summer even more this year with an upgraded pool for Clinton and new playground equipment for Warepa School thanks to donations from the Otago Community Trust.

Warepa school has been without playground equipment since it was demolished at the beginning of the year to make way for a new classroom. The school caters for 63 students and a steadily growing roll. The playground will also be a welcome addition for the community, particularly for local pre-school children and rural families in the area.

Otago Community Trust Chairperson Stuart Walker said “The school had already raised $18,000 for a fitness track which will benefit the whole community and be alongside the playground, together we can see they will be a great facility for families”.

The Warepa Playgroup are already planning on using the new playground and wholeheartedly support its development.  Member Sandra McNab said “We know early physical development for young children hones their motor skills, this new playground will allow both preschool and school children access to an opportunity to maximise their potential”.

The Otago Community Trust is supporting the Clinton Community Pools Inc with a $3000 donation to assist with the costs of painting the inside of the swimming pools for the comfort of the many local families who use it on a regular basis. The new surface should be ready in November this year.

Lisa Anderson, Chairperson, Clinton Community Pools Inc said “The number of visitors to the pool has really increased since we installed heating last year. But the original concrete bottom of the pool was uncomfortable on everyone’s feet, the new surface will look and feel nicer and be of a high quality so it lasts. The donation will really help to upgrade the standard of the pool”.

These donations were part of the $87,700 the Otago Community Trust granted to 18 organisations across Otago over September this year.
