Funding Stories

Otago Community Trust’s funding helps the Dunedin Youth Orchestra to use professional conductors, something that makes a big difference to their performances.

The 68-strong Orchestra, made up of instrumental players aged 13 to 25, put on two concerts a year.

Alison Tay from the Dunedin Youth Orchestra said it’s vital to have professional help to nurture the young talent - paying conductors and tutors ensures they provide as much opportunity as they can to learn to be good players, meaning the concerts are always a high standard and get great reviews.

“Fundraising is hard work when you are a committee of volunteers, so having continued support from the Otago Community Trust is huge – it’s a relief to know it is there to help groups like us.”
