North Otago Search and Rescue buys new incident command vehicle

Search and rescue has just got a whole lot easier for volunteers in North Otago, thanks to the Otago Community Trust.
The Trust donated $25,000 towards constructing and equipping an incident command vehicle, a very welcome contribution to the group's fundraising efforts. The six-metre-long command vehicle provides up to eight people with a well-equipped and comfortable working environment to manage and direct search and research communications – all on-the-spot. "We are effectively taking our office and all our gear with us, meaning we can improve response times and communication co-ordination in a search and rescue operation or civil defence emergency across the entire Waitaki district. It will make a difference in North Otago, and in other parts of the region too should the need arise," spoksperson Tony Wood said.
