The Otago Community Trust has been helping equip the Waitaki District School’s pipe band with sourcing instruments more suited to young people.

The band, which last year performed at 68 events across North Otago, including national contests and several ANZAC parades, wants to teach piping and drumming to as many young people as it can.

It already has instruments inherited from an adult pipe band, but is gradually adding equipment that is lighter and easier to manage for the 22-strong band of school students. This is especially being welcomed by players in street marches, particularly by the drummers.

The Otago Community Trust contributed money towards purchasing musical equipment last year.
