Otago Community Trust investing in Dunedin

 

Over $1 million was distributed to Otago organisations by the Otago Community Trust last month. The Otago Community Trust distributed a total of $1,080,900, of which 826,000 was for its annual Regional Sports Development Grants. A further $254,900 was donated to 24 community organisations throughout Otago in June. Some of the large monthly donations included:

·         $56,500 to the St Martin Island Community for on-going restoration to the Married Quarters building on the Island.

·         The Upper Clutha Tracks trust received $30,000 for two tracks in the Wanaka area.

·         Lawrence Inc received $40,000 to cover a variety of events planned in March 2011 for the 150th anniversary of the discovery of gold in Gabriel’s Gully.

·         The Fortune Theatre Trust received $45,000 towards this year's production costs, a similar amount to last year.

$125,000 for First Church Spire Restoration

The First Church has received a funding boost of $125,000 from the Otago Community Trust. The donation will assist with the major restoration project currently being undertaken on the church spire. First Church announced last week that it would start a public appeal to fund the $600,000 refurbishment of the towering 56.4m spire after much more restoration work was found to be required due to the Church’s Category 1 Heritage New Zealand classification.
