The Otago Community Trust has long been a supporter of arts and the theatre in Otago, particularly in the regions.
The Fine Thyme Theatrical Society Society, based in Cromwell, puts on a variety of musicals, dramas and comedies for annual productions as well as festivals. It gets people involved in theatre – on and off stage - and provides entertainment for people across Central Otago. The Trust has helped the Society stage shows, in June 2012 supporting the Society's very successful musical production " 80′s The Totally Awesome Musical."
As Society Secretary Kerry Horsnell points out, staging a show with good sound and lighting is expensive, so having the Community Trust help with funding means they are not dependent on revenue alone, and that makes all the difference to being able to stage a production, and to get people along.
