December Donations

 A large number of Dunedin and Otago community projects have received a major boost by this month’s Otago Community Trust donations.

A total of $317,000 in donations by the Trust was approved to 33 organisations around Otago, to help sports teams, education, conservation, and welfare projects.

A $45,000 grant to the Otago Post Graduate Medical Society will allow Otago health practioners to learn from world experts, through an education programme which brings overseas professors to into our community.

The Southern Steel netball team will also benefit from a Trust donation of $40,000,  to assist Netball Otago in the Tasman Trophy next year.

Large Donations

There were quite a few other larger donations made this month by the Trust, including $35,000 to the Mayors Taskforce for Jobs, $35,000 to the Wanaka Tennis Club Inc., $27,405 to the Dunedin Returned and Services Welfare Trust, $25,000 to the Central Otago Ecological Trust, $15,000 to the Clutha Valley Playcentre, and $10,000 to Habitat for Humanity.

$125,000 for First Church Spire Restoration

The First Church has received a funding boost of $125,000 from the Otago Community Trust. The donation will assist with the major restoration project currently being undertaken on the church spire. First Church announced last week that it would start a public appeal to fund the $600,000 refurbishment of the towering 56.4m spire after much more restoration work was found to be required due to the Church’s Category 1 Heritage New Zealand classification.
