The Dunedin Performing Arts Competitions celebrate the arts, but they’ve also helped to kick start the stage careers of several Otago performers.

The Dunedin Performing Arts Competition Society runs a well-supported series of competitions each year for tap-dancing and ballet, instrumental, and senior and junior vocals, attracting large numbers of competitors aged from four to 25 from Otago and beyond each year.

The Otago Community Trust last year donated $4000 towards hosting the weekend-long events.

The competitions always provide invaluable performance experience, but have also proved a stepping stone for many, including international opera singers Jonathan Lemalu and Anna Leese.
