A Multi-Purpose Court for Makarora

A new outdoor court is a very big deal for the tiny community of Makarora, on the highway between Wanaka and the West Coast.

The Makarora Valley now boasts its first sporting facility – a new multi-purpose court based at the local school.

Small communities often struggle with fundraising, so funding and support from the Otago Community Trust often makes all the difference. 

The 17-pupil school has so far missed opportunities to play sports like tennis, netball, basketball, volleyball and badminton on a sealed surface.  Now the pupils and their families are looking forward to playing all of that, and using the court as a dry surface during winter for the little ones to ride their bikes. The community is now fundraising for hoops and a backboard to finish the project.
