Read moreThe Upper Clutha Tracks Trust (UCTT) has received a funding boost from the latest round of donations from the Otago Community Trust. A $30,000 donation was awarded to the UCTT to support the development of the Hawea Flat Link Track. UCTT treasurer John Wellington said it has long been the desire of the Hawea Flat Community to be able to get to Albert Town more directly along the route of the closed Newcastle Road.

The Trust launched its new Learning Impact Fund on 1 April 2017 with the aim to encourage new thinking and collaboration. The Fund has been delivered in two tranches, the $1.5million $for$ fund and a separate Innovation Fund. Each fund has been set up as a three-year programme to help assist projects which support the education of Otago’s young people.

This lakeside project is to improve amenities at the Catlins Lake, near Owaka. This project has been spearheaded by Catlins Promotion. The promotions group aims to utilise a section of disused highway to make a public amenity walk, picnic table and lookout near the historic wharf piles site.
