The purpose of the Ōtepoti COVID-19 Innovation and Development Fund for hapori Māori is to support new initiatives and projects within Ōtepoti/Dunedin that enhance social and economic wellbeing. Projects can address whole community needs or provide opportunities for specific groups such as rakatahi, wāhine or kaumātua.
The Fund is a partnership between the Dunedin City Council and Otago Community Trust, which are each contributing $60,000 toward grants in 2020-21 only.
The Fund was established in acknowledgement of hardships and issues experienced by whānau Māori as a result of COVID-19. Funding supports innovation and development projects and initiatives that contribute to oraka.
Applying to this fund does not prevent organisations from making a regular grant application to the Otago Community Trust or a grant application to the Dunedin City Council.

Eligible projects and initiatives must meet at least one of the criteria below and must be for the benefit of people living within Ōtepoti/Dunedin City boundaries only –
Eligible projects and Initiatives must be started within the 2020-21 financial year (prior to 31 March 2021).
It is expected that groups and organisations applying will make a minimum 20% contribution to the total cost of the project. This contribution could include funding from other sources, cash reserves or support such as in-kind staff or volunteer hours. Volunteer hours should be costed at the current Living Wage.
The Fund has a total of $120,000 to allocate. Up to $10,000 can be allocated to each application. If your application is for a higher amount, please contact Sue Stewart (Sue@oct.org.nz) or Mai Tamimi (email@example.com) to discuss your application before applying.
Applications will be open from 6 November 2020 to 5pm on Friday 4 December 2020. Applications will be online only.
Grants will be allocated in late December 2020 for this one-off funding.
Reporting will be required from all successful applicants within 12 months of the funding being allocated.

Any group undertaking a new project or initiative that will benefit oraka Māori within Ōtepoti/Dunedin, and where the project or initiative meets the criteria.
Groups not registered with the Charities Commission must have a named fundholder organisation working with them to hold the grant funds. If groups do not have a named fundholder and need advice, contact Sue Stewart (Sue@oct.org.nz) or Paul Coffey (firstname.lastname@example.org) before applying to the fund
Partnerships (more than one organisation partnering to apply for a shared project or initiative).
Fundholder organisations can apply for their own project if separate to another it holds funds for. The application cannot be for the same project or initiative.

All successful grant recipients will be required to complete an Accountability Form within 12 months of the funding being allocated.
