COVID-19 Hardship Fund

Background

Otago Community Trust understands that there has been a significant increase in demand across the region for food parcels and emergency support during this COVID-19 lockdown. Whilst there are many organisations assisting, some are better resourced than others. 

Otago Community Trust COVID-19 Hardship Fund

The Otago Community Trust has established a new Fund for organisations directly supporting Otago residents experiencing hardship as a result of the Covid lockdown, for example assistance with food parcels and basic home essentials.

The dedicated $250,000 COVID-19 Hardship Fund is to assist community groups support those in need. 

Initial grants of up to $5,000 can be applied for with subsequent grants available up to same level.

Criteria 

Funding for organisations directly supporting Otago residents experiencing hardship as a result of the 2021 COVID-19 lockdown, for example assistance with food parcels and basic home essentials.

Eligibility

  1. Applicants must meet the same eligibility criteria as for other grants from Otago Community Trust, specifically they can be any not for profit body within the Otago Community Trust funding area;
  2. A OCT COVID-19 Hardship Grant is independent of all other grants from the Trust, receiving one will not affect our general grant process. 
  3. Successful applicants may apply for one or more further OCT COVID-19 Hardship Grants.  
  4. Any subsequent applications to the OCT COVID-19 Hardship Fund must be accompanied by an accountability report for the previous grant.

Application Process

  • Grants will be up to $5,000 and will be considered on a weekly basis with funds being distributed within three working days;
  • Applications will be accepted by email to sue@oct.org.nz;
  • Email application to include:
      • What is the organisation’s legal status, eg Registered Charitable Trust or Incorporated Society;
      • Brief outline of the organisation’s purpose and description of service;
      • An indication of the intended use of the funds;
      • Bank verified account details;
      • A brief accountability, including list of payments will be required.

Whilst there is support available from other sources, there is a reluctance by many people to approach “mainstream” supports. Many are choosing to approach organisations where existing relationships exist.
