Large Donations

A total of $479,800 was distributed to 35 organisations throughout region in February. 

The Trust is giving the Otago Festival of the Arts $180,000 for its 2010 festival.  It is also donating $15,000 for the DCC's Heritage Festival this year.  The Friends of the Botanic Garden receive $100,000 to construct a new Mediterranean Garden, a significant feature of its redevelopment programme.  Short Film Otago receives $40,000 to foster writing skills to produce short films in Otago, the third year of involvement in this project by the Trust.  The Otago Harbour Ferry Inc receives $30,000 to further assist the completion of the Elsie Evans so it can offer services in Otago Harbour as a small heritage ferry. It ran a scheduled service on the harbour early last century and the Dunedin Curling Club receives $10,000 to assist with running the World Senior Curling Champs in Dunedin in April.

$125,000 for First Church Spire Restoration

The First Church has received a funding boost of $125,000 from the Otago Community Trust. The donation will assist with the major restoration project currently being undertaken on the church spire. First Church announced last week that it would start a public appeal to fund the $600,000 refurbishment of the towering 56.4m spire after much more restoration work was found to be required due to the Church’s Category 1 Heritage New Zealand classification.
